Caravan Parking Feet. The Importance of Increasing the Support Surface

Caravan parking legs, as the name suggests, have the function of providing support during the rest period of your caravan, reducing the weight acting on the tires and increasing stability during parking.

Note: We must not forget that the parking legs should not be used to stabilize our caravan, there are wedges for this! For example, it is not recommended to apply too much force to the feet by raising the wheels of our caravan, as this may cause deformation of the frame.

CARAVAN PARK FEET: WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO INCREASING THE SUPPORT SURFACE?

Now that we've identified the role of caravan parking legs, let's see in detail why it's important for them to have a higher support surface.

When we go camping, we cannot always be aware of the terrain type on the site. We can find campsites with grassed pitches, pitches on sand, pitches on gravel, and so the trailer's outriggers may not always be sufficient to provide a stable support surface.

Consider also a possible storm, how will the ground of our field dry?!? Will our trailer stay stationary or will it rock?!?

CARAVAN PARK FEET: 3 SOLUTIONS TO INCREASE SUPPORT SURFACE

There are various solutions to increase the support surface of caravan parking legs, some do it yourself and others are more innovative.

Here is the list:

wood chips

Mobile unbreakable soles

Unbreakable soles fixed to the feet

PIECES OF WOOD

Who hasn't used wooden planks as a support surface for feet?

Pros: Typical almost zero route caravan accessory

Cons: Every time you put the caravan down, you have to put wooden planks under the caravan stand legs. You have to clean them when you're done, they take up space in the storage compartment and deform as you use them.

MOBILE UNBREAKABLE BASES

Pros: great products, pretty cheap.

Disadvantages: Every time you have to put the plates under the caravan parking legs, you have to clean them when you're done and they still take up space in the storage cabinet.

UNBREAKABLE SOLES FIXED TO THE FEET

There are several types of unbreakable fixtures for fixing to caravan parking stands, varying in weight, size and fixing method.

Pros: They stay plugged in on the go and are always ready to use, great products and inexpensive.

Disadvantages: Some models that you know and use do not stay fixed on the parking leg of the caravan while driving, they constantly oscillate.

LARGE FOOT SUPPORT BASE

Even if we don't have them, we consider Big Foot to be an excellent product when it comes to supporting bases for caravan parking legs, and now we'll explain to you in detail why.

At first glance, the work they do seems to be the same as the unbreakable soles fixed to the feet we mentioned above, but it is not...

The support surface is larger, equal to 20 x 18 cm, and is equipped with beveled ribs that increase the "grip" of the surface so that the support base does not slip or sink.

They have a maximum static load of 1250 kg and are therefore also ideal for twin-axle or high-mass caravans.

Unlike the support bases mentioned above, the Big Foot does not wobble or protrude when the caravan is in motion, thus saving space at height (adheres perfectly to the underbody).

Big Foot can be mounted on Stabiel and Premium supports after market.

Starting from the year of construction 2001, the outriggers are prepared with holes for installation, until the year 2000 in the outriggers for caravans these holes must then be made according to the instructions.
