Install lithium battery in caravan | Protect your BMS (battery management system)!
When connecting a lithium battery, you should consider that the onboard BMS (battery management system) is a control board that is very sensitive to short circuits. This is when connecting the onboard electronics to the battery, it is important to ensure that the switches used do not touch both poles at the same time. Please also make sure not to touch body parts with the tip of the key.
Traditional lead batteries forgive that LifePo4 batteries can be heavily damaged.
Install the lithium battery in the caravan
Install a lithium battery in my motorhome - Correct charging is crucial to your charge controller setting & load booster
Using the wrong charge setting can supply your lithium batteries at voltages that are not suitable for use in these batteries. If your charger has several settings but cannot be clearly adjusted for lithium, use the lead/gel setting as an alternative. This is closest to the charging characteristic of lithium batteries and covers an area that does not cause voltage spikes.
Under no circumstances should the lead/acid setting be used.
Precision component Bluetooth stick
Be very careful with your battery and make sure you don't drop it. This may damage the sensitive BMS (battery management systems) or the attached Bluetooth stick may become disconnected from the circuit board and you will no longer be able to use your application.
This could also be a reason why you're not getting more information from your app at some point.
Splashproof does not mean waterproof
What should be clear to everyone is that a lithium battery is waterproof, but not necessarily waterproof. The so-called IP protection class is specified in your battery's instructions. This provides information on how well the device is protected against moisture and wetness.
The high protection class IP67 is often used for sensitive batteries or control electronics.
Official testing for this protection class requires the component to maintain full functionality in a 30-minute immersion bath at a depth of 1 meter. As a result, water must not get inside and the protection class IP67 is also called waterproof.
Our built-in lithium battery from LIONTRON has increased splash protection to 65. For our protection class, the lithium battery can be protected against rainwater and therefore can be used in these vehicles as an ideal auxiliary battery for mobile homes.
In the case of newer LIONTRON batteries, protection class 65 is due to the fact that they are sustainable and can be opened as the housing is screwed and not glued.
In most cases, LifePO4 batteries from other manufacturers can only be disposed of in the event of an error or malfunction.
In addition to our battery model, GreenAkku also offers products that guarantee high water resistance to the maritime industry.
Do not panic if the battery does not charge immediately in sub-zero temperatures
Believing that the battery can be used immediately in sub-zero temperatures is one of the most common misconceptions that worries end customers. One or the other likes to go to “Ice and Glacier”.
To protect your battery, BMS shuts down the battery below a certain temperature. The internal temperature sensor detects values in the freezing area and as a precaution (to prevent damage) the battery is put into sleep mode.
So don't panic!
When the vehicle warms up during the journey and the battery warms up, it will charge and discharge normally.
Install lithium battery in caravan | and still not enough power for high electricity consumption devices on board?
If you want to install a lithium battery in your caravan, you should know that you cannot run high power technical devices with any battery. High currents require high power.
For example , high performance inverters in the caravan industry or even Moover inverters need the right battery capacity . With these devices it is important to get a preliminary impression of the technical data.
The continuous discharge current of the battery must match the performance of the built-in devices!
Sample:
If a lithium battery provides 100 amps of continuous discharge current, an inverter can be supplied with 1280 watts continuously.
If your devices now require more than 1280 watts of power, your inverter may fail.
Now there are 2 ways to get around this.
First:
You install a 2nd LifePO4 battery that is connected in parallel, thus doubling the power (not the voltage). In the example given above you now have 2560 watts you can get from the inverter.
Latter:
Consider installing a larger battery that provides higher discharge currents, eg. 150 amps (Liontron 100AH = 150 amps continuous discharge current), this corresponds to 1920 watts of inverter power.
Solution:
Think carefully before buying a new battery and inverter:
What time of year do you mainly want to travel?
which devices will be with you
how many days do you want to be self sufficient
But once you've cleared that up for yourself, a salesperson can recommend your perfect battery and the right inverter.
wrong assumption | 100 AH battery can draw 100 amps continuously
It's not always true to believe that if the battery has 100AH on it, it can draw 100 amps right away.
AH (ampere hour) , how much battery
